PETER CHRISTOPHERSON RIP 1955-2010

I wake this morning to the shock news that Peter, or 'Sleazy' to his many friends, has died in his sleep, at his home in Bangkok. I'm stunned. He visited us just a few weeks ago. Ossian and I can hardly believe it. At 55, Sleazy's appetite for life was immense, and brooked no argument! I suppose it makes sense there was to be no gradual slide to a halt. A sudden end, an extraordinarily full life.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Sleazy's work in Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, SoiSong, Threshold HouseBoys Choir, and most of all in Coil, will continue to change lives, passing on the great gifts of lucidity, imagination and awareness that he offered to us all.

Seeing into darkness is clarity.
Knowing how to yield is strength.
Use your own light
And return to the source of light.
This is called practicing eternity.

  3. I can't quite get my head around this... I'm trying to think of something profound to say but I'm too stunned, too confused.... I've been listening to Throbbing Gristle and Coil for some 18 years now so Peter has always been a huge presence in my life, hardly a week will go by where I don't put a TG or Coil record. Now he has left us, the world is a far less interesting place, and more terrible too...

  8. Hi LR (Richard?)
Yes I remember that day, a strange mix of sadness and hilarity on the way back, wasn't it? That old clip is funny, Geff and I look about fifteen! We were recording For Us They Will that day, I recall, which ended up on Gold is the Metal.

  11. Late condolences to you and your friends. How can it be that someone who I never met, who was never on my continent (Australia) , whose music & creativity, touch me in such a deep and profound way? Vale Sleazy.

  12. Thank you for your Wire piece. At last an "obituary" that doesn't ignore the fact that Peter was in Coil longer than he was in TG or Hypgnosis
