I'm thrilled to be associated with a new release ON VINYL of Fabio Frizzi's peerless score for Zombie Flesh-Eaters, aka Zombi 2 (the original Italian title) or Zombie (in the USA). I've provided sleeve notes for the album, alongside notes by the composer himself (who by the way is one of my all-time strongest musical influences). The artwork for the LP cover is by the marvellous UK poster artist Graham Humphreys, responsible for the original posters for The Evil Dead, Return Of The Living Dead, Santa Sangre and the Nightmare On Elm Street series, as well as the 'Fulci's Box of Terrors' DVD set from Shameless and numerous Arrow DVD releases.
Death Waltz Records is a brand new London-based company created by Spender Hickman of Rough Trade Records. Their release schedule is already impressive (see below) and promises high quality vinyl pressings, extensive liner notes from the composers and newly commissioned artwork. Each release will feature a limited edition of 300 copies pressed on colored vinyl, a numbered print and a poster featuring the new artwork. A black vinyl edition with an A2 poster will also be available through record stores.
Future releases include: Escape From New York (composer: John Carpenter), House of the Devil (composer: Jeff Grace), Let the Right One In (composer: Johan Söderqvist), and Donnie Darko (composer: Michael Andrews).
PS. I've been in regular touch with Fabio Frizzi himself recently, so look out for extensive interview material with him in a future edition of Beyond Terror (just don't ask me when that's coming, but I promise it will happen one fine day!).

Many thanks Steve, I may pick this release up just for the artwork. It looks fantastic. I think my all time favourite film poster is Graham Humphreys' British quad of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Beautiful artwork... Years before the arrival of DVD, I had the VIPCO tape of Zombie Flesh Eaters, which had that audio hiccup on the opening few seconds of the theme music, so much so that I can't quite get used to not hearing it on subsequent DVDs !
ReplyDeleteThat glitch! Yes, even now I keep expecting to hear it.
ReplyDeleteso wait, is this released yet?
ReplyDeleteThe album comes out some time in May - check the Twitter feed for more updates, if you 'do' Twitter - I don't btw!
ReplyDeleteI looked at the tracklisting, which is listed as sequences rather than/additional to song titles (i.e. 1. Theme From Sanguelia, 2. Partenza Al'Inferno as on Japanese 7" single). What is a glaring omission AGAIN is the fantastic Euro Disco song 'There's No Better' which plays in the scene where Tisa Farrow is on the NYC docks at night skipping past a policeman to gain access to her fathr's boat. No amount of blood splattered clear vinyl can make up for this missing track, admittedley missing from all releases so far, but one that would of made this vinyl TRULY unique.
